Microfinance USA is the conference where the nation's leading microfinance champions exchange ideas and information that set the agenda for the future of the field. It brings together expert practitioners, top investors, and frontline researchers to explore and expand microfinance in the U.S. Designed to raise awareness about the field, in the previous two years the event has drawn substantial local and national media coverage. This year's conference will include strong discussions of current international and domestic issues, allowing participants to reflect on the lessons both suggest for future directions.

The conference will take place May 23 and 24 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. For more on the conference agenda and registration information, please see the conference website.

We are hosting a special luncheon and roundtable discussion for funders and investors on Tuesday, May 24 from 12:15 to 1:30 pm. Hosted by the Microenterprise Funders Group and the Asset Funders Network, this session is designed as an opportunity for funders to network and to reflect with each other on the conference discussions and their implications for grant-making and investment. The agenda will include opening thoughts from several funders, followed by roundtables on themes such as:

  • Outcome and impact data: What do we know about U.S. Microfinance and how will it shape our funding and investment decisions?
  • Microfinance and credit building: What are the most interesting initiatives around credit building and financial capability, and how can we/are we supporting them?
  • Microlending models in the U.S.: What do we think about CDFI/nonprofit versus for-profit models?
  • How do capital sources shape lending models and methods?
  • From international to domestic microfinance: what can we take from international models and lessons?
  • Where will we have to build our own path?

We welcome all funder and investor representatives registered for Microfinance USA. Luncheon costs are incorporated in the conference registration fee.

Please RSVP for the Funders Luncheon and the conference by clicking here. When selecting your registration type in the drop down menu on the first screen, please select MFG/AFN Luncheon to be sure that your luncheon RSVP is automatically included in your full conference registration. If you have questions, please contact Elaine Edgcomb at Elaine.edgcomb@aspeninst.org.

We expect that this will be an engaging and informative opportunity for funders, and we hope that you will take advantage of it. We look forward to seeing you on May 24.
